Parasitological situation in Estonia. 1,0 ECTS (lecturer Mare Remm)
Estonian location in the temperate climate zone guarantees us relatively small number of parasite species. The population-wide helminthological control started in the Soviet time and was finished in the independent Estonia. As people consult a doctor rarely with parasitological problems, the data on infection rate are incomplete.
We will start the introduction with the most common helminths in Estonia with Enterobius vermicularis or pinworm, who is very common in Estonian nursery schools, as we found in our studies. And will finish with Toxoplasma gondii. Toxoplasmosis is rather rare in Estonia, but the infection rate of population is quite higher. Our students had studied also the population infection rate with Toxoplasma gondii. We will speak about twenty parasite species all together.Epidemiology and cancer treatment in Estonia. 0,25 ECTS (lecturer Siret Kivistik)
